The Core Commitments of a Member
- I have committed my life to Jesus. He is my Lord and my Savior. I have renounced my rebellion against God. I believe that Jesus died on my behalf on the cross. I trust his “finished work” as the basis of my new relationship with God. I desire to love God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
- I have publicly announced my faith in Jesus Christ by being baptized.
- I am intentionally responding to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and am entering into a covenant-based relationship with the other members of this church. The terms of our relationship and responsibilities are spelled out in our commonly agreed upon “Covenant”.
- I agree with the doctrine taught by my church. I understand the basic teachings spelled out in the “statement of faith” and these are beliefs that I think are true and rooted in the Bible.
- I will faithfully attend the church’s worship gatherings.
- I will set aside time to volunteer to serve in the church’s ministries. My service will be an expression of my spiritual gifts.
- Because I believe that the mission of this church is a microcosm of God’s global mission, I will contribute my finances to enable the ministries of the church to function effectively. I will participate in the establishing of our common goals and give sacrificially to see that these goals are accomplished—for Jesus’ sake.
- I accept the system of organization and authority that we have created and described in our constitution and I will gladly participate in its functioning and submit to the recognized leaders of our church.
- I will be a fully functioning participant in a “cell of the body”. I will prayerfully seek out a small group of approximately 12 persons and commit myself to share life with them.
- I will “lean on” my friends for the pastoral care, nurture, prayer and accountability that I recognize to be necessary for my continued growth as a follower of Jesus.
- I believe that each Christian is given a capacity by the Holy Spirit and that this “gift” is necessary for the proper functioning of the whole body. I will seek to identify my contribution and to offer myself as a channel of the Holy Spirit’s gracious working in this church
