Adult Bible Fellowships
At Wheaton’s First Baptist Church we recognize that sometimes it’s hard to feel really connected with people on Sunday mornings in the worship services since there's such a big crowd and since the schedule is pretty tight. So we encourage everyone who attends our services to connect to God's family in a more "face-to-face" kind of way. One option for getting connected is an ABF.
Each Sunday morning more than 200 adults meet together in our eleven Adult Bible Fellowships. The groups range in size from about a dozen to nearly 40. Most of the groups are organized around “season of life” and many have provided a meaningful environment for friendship, fellowship, and learning for decades.
ABFs function like small churches (sub-congregations) within the large church. Their 1.25 hour meeting on Sunday morning includes, in most cases, a coffee time for conversation and relationship building, a period for sharing concerns and group prayer, and a Bible-based lesson time. Most groups meet on other occasions for social activities.
Key elements of ABFs are:
- Adult – Groups meeting the needs of adults.
- Bible – Teaching and applying the Word of God to daily living. Discussion and inter-action provide learning opportunities designed to equip us for the work of ministry.
- Fellowship – Building friendships with others, sharing prayer needs and caring for each other.
ABF Goals:
- Building vital Christian relationships through hospitality and fellowship, and caring for the needs of group members.
- Praying specifically for the needs of the group, upholding each other before Christ.
- Studying the Word of God together for the purpose of life application and transformation.
